Dr Helen O'Connor (Sports Nutrition)
Lecturer
Sports nutrition, metabolism, obesity & weight control. Former head of SDA. Active as dietician for Swans, etc.

Sports nutrition, sports dietician, level 3 anthropometrist, obesity and weight management, competition dietary intake during Sydney 2000 Olympic games.

Helen O’Connor has 18 years experience as a sports dietician and has worked extensively with coaches and athletes to advise them on dietary strategies for optimal performance. Helen has worked as a consultant to the Sydney Swans Football Club for 15 years and for 12 years with Canterbury Rugby League. Helen has been the principal nutrition consultant to the NSW Institute of sport since its inception and was the inaugural president of Sports Dietitians Australia (1996-2000). During this time Helen organised a committee to help devise and oversee the menu for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic games. In addition to book chapters, research papers and numerous conference presentations, Helen has published five lay books in sports nutrition which have been sold extensively internationally.

Dr Kieron Rooney (Biochemistry, Exercise Physiology)
Lecturer
Biochemistry, exercise physiology, in vitro and in vivo metabolic investigation, creatine supplementation, international speaker and journal referee.

Having recently completed his PhD in Biochemistry, Kieron has joined the School of Exercise and Sport Science as course co-ordinator for the second year subjects Biochemistry of Exercise and Exercise Physiology II. Kieron has already acquired almost 5 years of teaching from practical applications of biochemistry, problem based learning tutorials for the faculty of medicine and more recently as a lecturer here in both the school of Exercise and Sport Science and school of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences within the University of Sydney. Research conducted during his PhD has been well received within the scientific community and has resulted in a number of international journal publications and conference presentations at the beginning of a promising career. Peer recognition of Kieron’s abilities is evidenced by a number of invitations to speak at various meetings and the recent invitation as a referee for the European Journal of Applied Physiology.

Prof Brand-Miller is high profile Nutritionalist and head of her national society. In 2005, she gave a keynote lecture at the Australian Sports Commission's “Our Sporting Futures” conference.

Ms Rohrlach is a specialist in Human Nutrition and coordinates professional development courses for Sports Dieticians Australia.
