Australia’s professional level sport education has scored a vital win, with $8.7 million Australian Government funding for a ground-breaking initiative, launched at Sydney’s Olympic Park on 7th June 2005.

Announcing the ‘Sport Knowledge Australia’ initiative was the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education, Science and Training, Pat Farmer.

“This innovative programme will deliver market driven, leading edge, practical and premium quality education products in Australia and overseas,” Mr Farmer said.

“Courses commencing later this year include the Executive Sport Management and Elite Sport Coaching programmes.

“Sport Knowledge Australia promises to be a global leader in professional level education. It has drawn together a team of leading sports science and management experts from world-class faculties across the country.”

Jointly owned by Sydney University, the University of Technology, Sydney and the Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Sport Knowledge Australia is headed by Mr Leighton Wood, former head of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

“Combined with international sport industry leaders, our Australian experts’ knowledge will help to deliver the finest professional level education available,” Mr Farmer concluded.

Sport Knowledge Australia will assist the continued global growth of the sports industry, helping more communities around the world to benefit from strong sporting cultures.
