Government and business leaders met at the University of Sydney on 22 June to discuss future links
between India and Australia in the Asia-Pacific Region.
Michael L'Estrange, Secretary to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Prabhat Shukla,
the Indian High Commissioner in Australia, headed the list of speakers. Other members of a
high-ranking panel of experts included Neville Roach, Chairman Emeritus of the Australia India Business
Council, and Leighton Wood, CEO of Sport Knowledge Australia.
The forum looked at opportunities for engagement in international trade, research, sports, mining and
agriculture, as well as the continuing rise in the number of Indian students coming to Australia for
higher education.
The forum is the latest in a series held by the University bringing together leaders and thinkers from
around the world to present their views on strategic international issues and the way in which these
issues impact on Australia and the globe.
