Dear Reader
Welcome to Sport Knowledge Australia's third newsletter.
During the past three months Australia has enjoyed extraordinary and hard fought on-field sporting successes.
Our off-field planning, development and knowledge sharing form the foundations of the development of Australian
and indeed international sport.
SKA is spearheading this exchange and partnership process for Australia. During a recent Austrade
delegation trip to London, SKA laid the ground work for long term partnerships and the development of educational
and knowledge sharing projects. London Calling SKA.
In this issue we offer two specialised seminars on Genetic Doping – the Facts & the
Future and Best Practice Player Welfare, which are bound to
stimulate vigorous discussion.
Again, many thanks to each of you who took the time out to give us feedback.
Yours in sport,
Leighton Wood
Chief Executive

KOKODA Track Measures Endurance
The 4,000 or so Australians who are expected to walk the Kokoda track in 2007, should prepare for
a gruelling 96 kilometre endurance test spanning 7 to 11 days according to Professor Kevin Norton - a
pre-eminent sport scientist and SKA's Director of Research & Knowledge Services.
"The harsh physical demands of the track were written about during times of war but have never been fully
understood or quantified," says Norton. "As the popularity of Kokoda grows, it is important for those
considering the trek to understand the physical requirements - the preparation should not be underestimated
- very high levels of conditioning are required."
